The Master of Business/Master of Marketing provides a unique opportunity for students to gain two postgraduate awards at Masters level over a two year period. Students will diversify their knowledge and skills by studying across complementary discipline areas, graduating with a clear industry advantage.

Internationally recognised as amongst the best in the world, the Master of Business program is innovative, research informed and practical, and is designed to meet the changing needs of business, community and government enterprises involved in event management, tourism, hospitality, and sport management.

The Master of Marketing enables you to develop a solid base of knowledge and expertise in the latest marketing techniques and technologies. Building on a foundation of marketing principles, best practice and new approaches to customer relationships, you'll learn how to think more strategically about value, positioning and competitive advantage. You'll acquire an understanding of consumer behaviour in fragmenting markets, within well-grounded approaches to market research and integrated marketing communications. A highlight of the program is the integration of theory and practice throughout the courses and exposure to cutting edge marketing practices.

The double degree program equips the graduate to be able to make managerial decisions with an understanding of marketing and operational considerations in a rapidly expanding and dynamic services industry.

Attendance information

The Master of Business/Master of Marketing is offered full-time and part-time on campus at the Gold Coast campus. You may choose to study courses at other campuses, or online, if or where the program structure allows.

Some courses are also offered in online mode. Students will be able to access course materials, participate in learning activities, lodge assessment items and access support services via Learning@Griffith. There is no requirement for on-campus attendance and access to a reliable computer with internet connection is essential.

As a full-time student, you will generally attend 9-12 hours of scheduled classes per week throughout the trimester. As a part-time student, you will generally attend 3-6 hours of scheduled classes per week.

Classes may be scheduled during the day and evening throughout the week.

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Master of Business

The Master of Business program will provide graduates with discipline-specific knowledge in areas of international tourism and hospitality management, event or sport management in addition to the advanced knowledge and skills gained in the core courses in marketing, strategic management and managing people and financial resources.

In a rapidly expanding and dynamic services industry, it is expected that graduates will be highly sought after by employers in following areas:

  • entertainment services
  • theme parks and attractions

Students will also have personal and professional competencies relevant to ethical practice in a complex environment and then specialise in one of the following areas:

  • International Tourism and Hospitality Management: Students completing this specialisation will gain relevant knowledge and skills to analyse and critically evaluate current management practices within the tourism and hospitality industries which will enable them to provide managerial leadership to enhance the sustainability and development of tourism and hospitality enterprises.
  • Sport Management: This specialisation builds upon the postgraduate Business foundation courses to advance the competency of students in managing the business of sports. The specialised courses provide opportunities for increasing knowledge and skills in areas such as sport promotion, sports law and sport and recreation development management. It is expected that graduates will be highly sought after by employers in areas in sporting enterprises including sport/event management and marketing firms, with government organisations including Institutes of Sport, Offices of Sport and Recreation, and local government departments providing sport and recreation services, as well as with sporting clubs and associations.
  • Event Management: Students in this specialisation will gain specialist knowledge and skills relevant to professionals who organise medium to large-scale meetings, conventions, festivals, and sporting and charitable events. This specialisation is designed both for the practising event practitioner wanting to take their skills to the next level, and for the business graduate who has a desire for the event management field.

Master of Marketing

Graduates are prepared for a broad range of career avenues and have the ability to pursue a senior management career within the marketing profession. Marketing continues to be one of the 'glamour' professions and shows no sign of losing this status. Marketing offers variety like few other professions. You can work in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), tourism, the entertainment industry, public relations or advertising. Marketing is often fast-paced and exciting and always challenging. You'll need to be a quick thinker, creative, analytical and a good communicator - skills that this degree will help you develop further.
