This degree will provide you with a postgraduate professional social work qualification that allows entry into the profession. It is specifically designed for graduates holding degrees with some social and behavioural science components. You will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and ethical foundations for social work practice in contemporary social policy and human service contexts.
The frameworks for practice incorporated in the program are designed to ensure graduates are effective, ethical, and innovative thinkers, communicators, problem-solvers, change facilitators and leaders.
The program is offered in full-time, on-campus mode at the Gold Coast campus (with some courses available in distance mode).
On-campus elective courses may be offered at a campus other than a student's home campus. Students may be required to travel between campuses to complete some elective or core courses.
If you are an International student on a student visa, you must ensure that you enrol in a way that will allow you to complete your enrolment within the expected program duration as stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
Leave of absence: Students will require approval from the Program Director or nominee to take a leave of absence.
Work-integrated learning activities (professional placements) integrate theoretical learning with its application in the workplace. The inclusion of work-integrated learning activities in the degree program demonstrates Griffith 's commitment to preparing its graduates for success in their working life.
There will be two field placement courses. These field placements are of 500 hour minimum duration each equating to a total of 1000 hours in an agency that meets the requirements of Griffith University. Students will be supervised by a qualified social worker for the duration of the field placement. In some situations, it may be possible to negotiate a work-place based field placement.
You will be prepared for practice in a range of social work roles including working with individuals, groups and families, community work, advocacy, research, planning and policy development and management and administration. You will find career opportunities in government, non-government and private sector agencies with jobs in hospital and community health settings, youth work, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, child and family welfare, child protection, youth and adult offending, employment and income support, aged care, community development, family support, disability services, services for women, multicultural services and many other social welfare organisations.
This program is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) subject to meeting any additional requirements that may be stipulated by the AASW. As these requirements may change from time to time, students should contact the AASW to confirm registration requirements.
Graduates from a non-English speaking background should be aware that an IELTS score of 7.0 with no sub-score less than 7.0 is required for registration with Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). You will be required to complete an IELTS test at your own expense.

Students should refer to the checklist of pre-placement and placement requirements for their Health discipline on the Fit for Placement website for full details of the requirements regarding clinical placement to ensure that they meet eligibility for placement.
Note: In the event that there is a difference between the contents published on the Fit for Placement website and the program-specific information published on the Degree and Career Finder/Programs and Courses websites, or where information published on the Fit for Placement website is not in accordance with University Policy, the Degree and Career Finder/Programs and Courses website contents and University Policy shall override the information on the Fit for Placement website.

The indicative annual tuition fee is calculated based on a standard full-time study load which is usually 80 credit points (two full-time trimesters).

If an International student changes to a different program they will be subject to the approved program fee for the trimester in which they are enrolled.
If an undergraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will be provided with a domestic fee-paying place.
The student may then apply for a Commonwealth supported place at the next admission period provided that the student satisfies the conditions for transfer from a domestic fee-paying place to a Commonwealth supported place as set out in the Undergraduate Programs Admission Policy.
If a postgraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth supported place subject to availability.
If a research student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.
