To be eligible for the award of Doctor of Medicine (MD), a student must acquire 320 credit points as prescribed below:

  • gain 320 credit points for the prescribed courses.

Note: All courses within the program are designated for the purposes of exclusion in accordance with the Academic Standing, Progression and Exclusion Policy. A student who fails a designated course will be subject to review by the School of Medicine Assessment Board and may be excluded from the program.

The Doctor of Medicine degree may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a compilation mark of 85% or higher over the final two years of the program. The words 'This award was achieved with Distinction' will be recorded on the testamur and will appear below the conferral date of the award.

For students enrolled in the MD/PhD pathway

To be eligible for both awards, students must satisfy the degree requirements of each award.

The PhD is awarded on the basis of a thesis prepared under supervision that makes an original, significant and extensive contribution to knowledge and understanding in the relevant field of study as judged by independent experts applying accepted contemporary international standards.
