Why choose this program?

Graduates will be eligible to register to practice as a Physiotherapist within Australia following accreditation. Students will undertake biomedical, physical and behavioural science courses as well as physiotherapy academic and clinical courses. Before graduation, students will be required to demonstrate physiotherapy knowledge and skills required for entry-level clinical physiotherapy practice.

This program provides an innovative, student-centred and employability-focused curriculum with a strong emphasis on client-centred and evidence based-practice as well as experiential and inter-professional learning.

Attendance information

Bachelor of Physiotherapy students will be expected to study full-time on-campus and attend all scheduled learning activities and clinical placements.

Note: The Bachelor of Physiotherapy curriculum will be introduced incrementally over four years (that is, Year 1 courses will be introduced in 2018, Year 2 courses in 2019, Year 3 courses in 2020 and Year 4 courses in 2021).

Work-integrated learning

Bachelor of Physiotherapy students will undertake several work-integrated learning activities throughout their program of study. Students will undertake clinical experiences from Year 1 to Year 4 as part of academic courses. Students will also undertake five week full-time clinical placements as part of five clinical placement courses.

Physiotherapists aim to enhance the movement and function of individuals and populations across the lifespan especially when actual or potential impairments and disability relate to the musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurological systems. Physiotherapists work in various settings such as hospitals, private practices, community health centres, schools, sporting teams and the armed forces. Physiotherapists may also be employed at universities to teach or conduct research or consult for industry and government bodies.

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC).

Professional recognition

Graduates of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy are recognised by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA) and will be eligible to apply for registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice physiotherapy within Australia.

Pathways to further study

Bachelor of Physiotherapy graduates may be eligible to apply for the Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy (5269) after undertaking at least two years of clinical experience, 40 hours of continuing development points with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and whilst maintaining registration to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA).

International students

An International student is one who is not:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or
  • a person who has Australian permanent resident status.
Indicative annual tuition fee

The indicative annual tuition fee is calculated based on a standard full-time study load which is usually 80 credit points (two full-time trimesters).

Changing programs

If an International student changes to a different program they will be subject to the approved program fee for the trimester in which they are enrolled.

Permanent resident status

If an undergraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will be provided with a domestic fee-paying place.

The student may then apply for a Commonwealth supported place at the next admission period provided that the student satisfies the conditions for transfer from a domestic fee-paying place to a Commonwealth supported place as set out in the Undergraduate Programs Admission Policy.

If a postgraduate student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth supported place subject to availability.

If a research student obtains permanent resident status in Australia after commencing study in a program, and the student can provide evidence of permanent resident status prior to the census date (of the trimester in which they are enrolled), the student will automatically be considered for a Commonwealth Government Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset or a domestic fee-paying place as applicable for the program.
