Why choose this program?

Graduates will be eligible to register to practice as a Physiotherapist within Australia following accreditation. Students will undertake biomedical, physical and behavioural science courses as well as physiotherapy academic and clinical courses. Before graduation, students will be required to demonstrate physiotherapy knowledge and skills required for entry-level clinical physiotherapy practice.

This program provides an innovative, student-centred and employability-focused curriculum with a strong emphasis on client-centred and evidence based-practice as well as experiential and inter-professional learning.

Attendance information

Bachelor of Physiotherapy students will be expected to study full-time on-campus and attend all scheduled learning activities and clinical placements.

Note: The Bachelor of Physiotherapy curriculum will be introduced incrementally over four years (that is, Year 1 courses will be introduced in 2018, Year 2 courses in 2019, Year 3 courses in 2020 and Year 4 courses in 2021).

Student Income Support

To be classed as a full-time student, you are required to enrol in a minimum number of credit points each standard study period. The minimum credit points for full-time enrolment in this program is 30 credit points.

Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 are deemed standard study periods. As Trimester 3 is a non-standard study period, continuing students moving from one year to the next will not be required to study during this trimester to be eligible for student income support.

Domestic students who commence in Trimester 3 may be eligible for student income support from the onset of study provided they are enrolled full-time in this study period.

Work-integrated learning

Bachelor of Physiotherapy students will undertake several work-integrated learning activities throughout their program of study. Students will undertake clinical experiences from Year 1 to Year 4 as part of academic courses. Students will also undertake five week full-time clinical placements as part of five clinical placement courses.

Physiotherapists aim to enhance the movement and function of individuals and populations across the lifespan especially when actual or potential impairments and disability relate to the musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurological systems. Physiotherapists work in various settings such as hospitals, private practices, community health centres, schools, sporting teams and the armed forces. Physiotherapists may also be employed at universities to teach or conduct research or consult for industry and government bodies.

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC).

Professional recognition

Graduates of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy are recognised by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PBA) and will be eligible to apply for registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice physiotherapy within Australia.

Pathways to further study

Bachelor of Physiotherapy graduates may be eligible to apply for the Master of Musculoskeletal and Sports Physiotherapy (5269) after undertaking at least two years of clinical experience, 40 hours of continuing development points with the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) and whilst maintaining registration to practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA).

Eligible undergraduate fee-paying students may defer their tuition fees by taking out a FEE-HELP loan which is part of the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP). Payment of the loan is via the taxation system when income reaches a specified level.
