To be eligible for the award of Bachelor Education (BEd), a student must acquire 320 credit points as prescribed below:

Primary Education

  • gain 80 credit points for the prescribed first year foundation courses;
  • gain 240 credit points for second, third and fourth year courses comprising:
    • 200 credit points of courses core to the Primary Education major including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses and
    • 40 credit points of courses for a minor in English, Mathematics or Science.
    OR
    • 180 credit points of courses core to the Primary Education major including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses and
    • 60 credit points for a major in Early Childhood Education or Health and Physical Education or Special Needs Education.
    AND
    • meet the Literacy and Numeracy Benchmark in the test administered by ACER on behalf of AITSL.

Secondary Education

  • gain 80 credit points for the prescribed first year foundation courses;
  • gain 240 credit points for second, third and fourth year courses comprising:
    • 120 credit points of courses core to the Secondary Education major including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses and
    • 120 credit points for two (60 credit point) teaching areas.
    OR
    • 120 credit points of courses core to the Secondary Education major including 40 credit points for the professional experience courses and
    • 60 credit points for one teaching area and
    • 60 credit points for the Junior Secondary Education major or Learning Support major.
    AND
    • meet the Literacy and Numeracy Benchmark in the test administered by ACER on behalf of AITSL.

This degree/s may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words 'This award was achieved with Distinction' will be recorded on the testamur and will appear below the conferral date of the award.
