For Domestic and those International students not required to complete the English Language Enhancement course

For the award of Bachelor of Social Work (BSocWk), you must successfully complete 320 credit points, made up of the core courses AND

  • 10 credit points of listed field of practice electives;
  • 10 credit points of free-choice electives.

Other program requirements

You must successfully complete:

  • no more than 100 credit points of Level 1 courses (the first digit of a course code denotes the level);
  • at least 60 credit points of Level 3 courses or higher.

This degree/s may be awarded with Distinction where a student achieves a minimum program GPA of 6.5 with no failed courses. The words 'This award was achieved with Distinction' will be recorded on the testamur and will appear below the conferral date of the award.

Honours

Eligibility to transfer to the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) (1416) or Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) (1417) in Years 3 and 4 will be determined by the Program Director and will be subject to the following criteria:

  • completion of Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Social Work (1282 or 1372) or equivalent program;
  • achievement of a GPA of at least 5.5 for the second year core courses;
  • achievement of a grade of at least 5.0 in 2002HSV Human Services Research or equivalent research course;
  • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic;
  • the resources available to support the candidature including availability of appropriate supervision.

Note: Entry to the Bachelor of Social Work with Honours is competitive and will be determined by order of academic merit and is subject to available supervisory resources.

Students who do not achieve the standard necessary to transfer to the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) (1416) or Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) (1417) will be required to remain in the Bachelor of Social Work program and complete the following Year 3 and 4 courses.
