Government Budgeting and Fiscal Policy (7326AFE)

This course analyses the foundations, formulation and economic impact of government budgets, and the operation of fiscal policy at federal and state levels. The course combines principles from economics, public finance and public sector accounting to addresses contemporary fiscal policy issues related to the role of government, taxation, public spending, budget deficits, the transmission of fiscal policy, and public debt sustainability. Lectures, workshops and readings are combined to convey key fiscal concepts and the analytical techniques needed to develop students' capacity to critically evaluate the budgetary process and the wider economic consequences of fiscal policy.
