Lyric Diction (7121QCM)

This course aims to develop linguistic proficiency in the four major operatic languages of English, Italian, French and German required of the operatic performer. There may however be an emphasis on instruction in the language of the chosen opera(s) in any given academic year. Performers admitted to this course are expected to have had significant experience with singing in the four major operatic languages since this course will build on that experience and refine the characteristics of each language with a focus upon cadence, intonation and nuanced inflective delivery in both speech and song. PRE-REQUISITE: Approval from Head of Opera
