Writing Creative Nonfiction: Places, People and Journey (7118LHS)

Creative Nonfiction 7118LHS will introduce students to the advanced study and professional practice of writing creative nonfiction, particularly for those engaged in travel and writing about diverse cultures and societies. The course will explore modes and genres such as travel, memoir, biography and narrative journalism, with reference to a range of outstanding examples by writers from diverse times and places. Students will have the opportunity to learn about global and local trends and issues currently shaping the production of creative non-fiction, including the impact of technology, and to investigate cultural, historical and theoretical contexts. The course will provide a lively and supportive framework through which students have the opportunity to gain inspiration, knowledge and understanding while developing their personal flair as creative and professional writing skills.
