Mapping the Modern (7010QCA)

This course will focus on theories and concepts of modernity and modernism in society and visual culture from 1838-1960 and its legacy for contemporary art, design and photographic practice. Students will be introduced to foundational histories and theories of visual culture as well as methods of research and critique. Through theories of visual analysis students will be informed of socio-political, aesthetic and philosophical concerns in art, design, photography and film of the twentieth century.
