Power Electronics and Machine Drives (6316ENG)

Recent and significant increases in the use in power systems of power electronics and drives are now delivering significant enhancements in the role and value of electricity in all aspects from generation to end use. It is estimated that by adopting the widespread use of efficient and cost effective power electronics technology the world could reduce energy consumption by 35%. To achieve such a goal, it is important to gain a thorough knowledge in power electronics and machine drives. This course covers the theory and practice of power electronics and electrical machines and their applications. One aim of this course is to develop your skills in engineering analysis and design in the area of power electronics and machine drives. Another aim is to equip you with a basic understanding of modern power semiconductor devices, including their strengths and switching protection techniques, so that you can engineer desirable goals such as energy efficiency, better product quality and accurate process control.
