Estuarine Ecology (3801ENV)

NOTE: THIS IS AN INTENSIVE COURSE. IN 2019, IT WILL RUN FROM MON 4 FEB TO 5 MARCH. THE FIELD COMPONENT WILL RUN FROM WED 6 FEB TO SUN 10 FEB. THE OTHER DAYS WILL BE LECTURES ON CAMPUS AND/OR PERSONAL STUDY DAYS. THE EXAM WILL BE HELD ON FRI 22 FEB AND THE FINAL REPORT DUE TUES 5 MAR. This is a 3rd year course, restricted to students for which it is a core or major requirement, students must be able to attend activities as per the course profile. This course covers the ecology of estuaries, where freshwater mixes with seawater. The biology of estuarine habitats is covered in detail, emphasising their role in coastal productivity and their sensitivities to pollution and habitat modification. Assessment is by practical projects and final examination. Prerequisites: 1042SCG Genetics and Evolutionary Biology OR 1602ENV Botany and Zoology AND 2204ENV Applied Statistics AND 2603ENV Ecology.
