Japanese Linguistics (3536LHS)

This course is intended to serve as an introduction to and a survey of various studies on Japanese linguistics and Japanese language acquisition. Firstly, the basic concept of Japanese linguistics will be introduced to help students understand language specific problems in the acquisition of Japanese. After this introduction, various topics will be discussed according to students' interest, which will lead students to build up research skills as well as to broaden their knowledge of Japanese language. The course requires the understanding of Japanese grammar and is suitable for learners who would like to consolidate their knowledge through a linguistic approach. The course is designed for students who are interested in Japanese language, linguistics, and the teaching of Japanese.
