Media Campaigns and Strategies (3518LHS)

This course brings public relations and media campaign strategies to life through students' role play of a mock state election campaign where theory, learned in the classroom, is applied by students to their real-time election campaigns. Given this is an advanced public relations course, students are expected to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to write and circulate media releases / media alerts, and know the basics of crisis management communication. As such, most of this course's assessment is drawn from students' practical application, in teams, of acquired knowledge and skills that are then applied to a mock election campaign for an imaginary forthcoming election. The course emphasises - and the assessment rewards - teamwork, independence and innovative thinking of the type relevant in real-world situations. While desirable, a knowledge of Queensland and / or Australian political institutions is not mandatory. PREREQUISITES: 2515LHS Media Relations. RECOMMENDED: 2509LHS Media, Politics & Public Opinion.
