Globalisation has had a profound impact on our world, this course examines how these changes have impacted upon the production, exhibition, and consumption of contemporary art. The first part of the course examines the chief theorists of contemporary art (Terry Smith, Hans Belting and Peter Osborne). The second part examines key themes and concepts that have been used to understand the kinds of contemporary art made now. We will consider key theories, such as postcolonialism, and key contemporary themes and issues, such as forced migration, injustice, centre/periphery dynamics, and the fate of the local and the regional in an interconnected world.
