Translation as a bridge between cultures (3403LHS)

Translation has been central to the interpenetration of the global and local throughout history. This course provides students with an understanding of translation as a process of communicating across multiple kinds of difference, involving not only language competency, but intercultural awareness and an understanding of texts and genres. The course looks into the art and craft of the professional translator and also into various modes of informal translation. Linguistic, cultural, social and ethical considerations are all intertwined in translation as a bridge between cultures. No knowledge of a second language is required, but students studying a language at Griffith University will have the opportunity to undertake a major assessment item relevant to their language of study. Incompatible: 3003LAL Translation theory and practice.
