Computer Systems (3302ENG)

This course covers some aspects of a computer system architecture and organisation. It will introduce the students to the basic components of a computer system showing how the system components interact with the processor such as the operating system, the memory controller, and the I/O subsystem. The course also contains an in depth look at many mainstream bus architectures used in industry. It not only focuses on the hardware components of computer based systems, the students are also taught the importance of the components that make an operating system. Students are encouraged to learn about operating systems through the development of a Real-time operating system for a mainstream micro-controller. Throughout the course, the assignments and laboratories will be used to further develop the practical skills of the students. Incompatible: 3021MEE Computer Systems
