Interest Rates, Money and Central Banking (3302AFE)

This course covers topics in modern monetary theory and policy, and related topics concerning macroeconomic policy in general. These topics include money demand and supply, interest rates, saving, investment, exchange rates, the role of the central bank, external imbalances, and fiscal policy. The emphasis throughout is on developing and applying analytical frameworks that improve students' understanding of the impact of monetary and other policy instruments on the economy and business environment. This course is offered: Gold Coast: Trimester 2 Day (even years) Night (odd years) Nathan: Trimester 2 Night (even years) Day (odd years) Prerequisite: 2303AFE or 2003IBA (Economics for Decision Making 2, Economic Analysis and Policy or an equivalent course). Incompatible: 3302AFE (Monetary Economics). Note: Prior or concurrent enrolment in 2304AFE (Intermediate Macroeconomics) is strongly recommended.
