Natural Products and NMR (3225ENV)

Natural Product (NP) chemists study complex organic chemicals found in organisms. NP's are major sources of medicines, contributing significantly to drug discovery. NP's also have applications in agriculture, environmental monitoring, food safety and ecology. Cutting edge molecular and chemical techniques are used to study the NP's. Students will study NP drug discovery and chemical ecology though lectures and laboratory activities covering topic in chromatogpraphy, NMR spectroscopy, drug- like properties, virtual and high throughput screening and the ecology of marine and terrestrial NP's. Prerequisites: 2014MSC Organic Chemistry AND 2102BPS Spectroscopic and Molecular Analysis.
