Aquatic Chemistry and Pollution (3201ENV)

This course builds on the chemistry of water and aquatic systems from 2203ENV Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring and provides a deeper understanding of three major topics in aquatic chemistry, which are assessed in the final examination: 1) Chemical equilibria and speciation of natural substances. 2) Chemistry of priority and emerging toxicants 3) Urban water monitoring and treatment. The practical component of the course provides an authentic experience in water quality assessment in a Gold Coast catchment that builds on the environmental monitoring content from 2203ENV and focuses on nutrient-related issues. Assessment is by a major report and field log book. Recommended prerequisites: 2203ENV Environmental Chemistry and Monitoring.
