Geotechnical Engineering (3102ENG)

Geotechnical Engineering forms a major part of the work of a professional civil engineer. This course is designed to enable students to do the analysis prior to design of foundations. It also forms an integral part of the civil analysis and design training provided in the four-year Bachelor of Engineering program in Civil Engineering. The course covers: design and construction aspects of shallow foundations, piled foundations, earth pressure calculations, and slope stability analysis. The main purpose of this course is to develop the ability of the students to design the basic geotechnical foundations (i.e., shallow foundation and piled foundation) and analyse the common geotechnical engineering problems (e.g., slope stability).
