Italy through the Theatre and Cinema (3093LHS)

This course further develops students' proficiency in Italian and understanding of Italian society and culture through the study of one play - a comedy by Nobel laureate Dario Fo - and two films: one a masterpiece of Italian neorealism and the other by a contemporary director. The class work on these texts includes workshops conducted using an educational approach known as process drama. Assessment is through both written and oral tasks, including a class presentation - on a film of the student's choice - and an oral exam. PREREQUISITE: 3092LHS / 3092LAL Italy Through the News OR 3094LHS / 3094LAL Italian Literature and Society OR equivalent. NOTE: Course not offered from 2017.
