Poetry and Poetic Imagination (3063LHS)

In this course we will seek to discover the power of poetry. You will develop a familiarity with many different forms of poetry, and practice ways of talking about and reading these forms. We'll look at a wide range of modern and contemporary work, sourced from across the 20th and 21st centuries and from around the world. We will also look at different critical approaches to poetry by examining influential essays written by poets and poetry scholars. This course will show you how, in reading poetry, you learn more not only about literature and language, but also about the power of the poetic imagination and its relationship to the world around us.
