Property 1 (3014LAW)

This course introduces students to fundamental elements of the law of property providing the basis for further study in the core course 3015LAW Property 2. This course critically assesses the justifications for property and considers the delineation of property using a variety of examples such as land, chattels and intangibles (intellectual property), illustrating how property is defined and limited through the legal concepts of "ownership", "title" and "possession". A significant focus of this course is a critical assessment of the legal justifications for property and the manner in which particular groups have used conceptual tools to secure their property rights. Prerequisite: 1031LAW Foundations of Law OR 1011LAW Law and the Modern State. Incompatible: 3011LAW Property Law 1.
