System and Software Design (2805ICT)

Software design plays a significant role in developing software: during software design, software engineers produce various models that form a kind of blueprint of the solution to be implemented. Students will create, analyse and evaluate these models to determine whether or not they will allow fulfillment of the various requirements. Therefore, students will gain the command of the tools and techniques for software modelling, as well as describing software architectures. Such software designs specify the software architecture, that is, how software is decomposed and organised into components, and the interfaces between those components. Models should describe the components at a level of detail that enables their construction. Attention will also be given to the software architectures underlying user interfaces, techniques for designing and evaluating of the human-computer interface and techniques for creating and prototyping them. Pre-requisite: 2807ICT Programming Principles or 1701ICT Creative Coding or 1806ICT Programming Fundamentals. For students in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Computer Science: 1305ENG Engineering Programming is the listed pre-requisite. Co-requisite: 1802ICT Software Development or 1809ICT Software Engineering Fundamentals Incompatible: 2509ICT Software Engineering, 3815ICT Software Engineering
