Systems and Distributed Computing (2803ICT)

This course covers a selection of advanced systems programming topics in multiprocessing, multitasking, task synchronization mechanisms, task communication mechanisms, operating system mechanisms as applied to both monolithic and distributed computing. Material about task handling, task synchronisation mechanisms (such as signals, locks, semaphores, or monitors), task communication mechanisms (including shared memory, pipes, sockets and messages), file system interaction, system functions, and current open standards will be presented and used in programming assignments, exercise and example material. Pre-Requisite: 2801ICT Computing Algorithms and 1801ICT Programming Languages
