Islamic Law in a Changing World (2613LHS)

This is an important course in the Major of Islamic Studies and is a must for anyone who wishes to understand Islam, Muslims and the Islamic world. Whether taken as part of this major or as an elective, the course gives students a comprehensive introduction to the meaning, sources, objectives and methodology of Sharia law. The course explores issues of jihad, terrorism, and domestic violence from an Islamic perspective. Furthermore, it explores the extent to which Sharia law is practiced in Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, and non-Muslim countries such as Australia. This is a must course for all Islamic studies students and anyone interested in understanding the inner dynamics of Islam and its law.
