Fashion and Art (2401QCA)

This course will view fashion through the eyes of the artist. It will involve a broad survey of art and fashion throughout the ages. The development of fashion will be considered in terms of the aesthetic, cultural, and sociological factors which have determined the major changes in both male and female fashion. Particular attention will be paid to the links between fashion and the art and design movements of the twentieth century. Psychological and sociological considerations will be considered, such as the influence of technology, feminism and popular culture. Assessment by three different assessment items. Pre-requisite: 1208QCA (Mapping the Modern) or 1209QCA (Mapping the Postmodern) or, if a Gold Coast student, 1601QCA Then and Now and/or 1617QCA Now and Next or equivalent.
