Engineering Electromagnetics (2314ENG)

All electrical signals produce electromagnetic fields be they communication signals or high current power transmissions. It is therefore vital to understand about the generation and manipulation of these fields. This course covers classical electrostatics in terms of charge and charge density in volumes, force due to charge, electric field intensity, electric potential and electric flux density. It also explores magnetostatics in terms of magnetic field intensity and flux density, magnetic forces, magnetic potential and inductance. Finally time varying fields are covered including moving conductors, transformers, displacement current and generation and motion. The outcome should be a complete understanding of Maxwell's equations applied to engineering problems.
