Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Practicum is designed to promote and support student learning, personal development and professional practice within Tourism, Events, Hotel, Sport Management, and Real Estate and Property Development. This course involves a series of workshops through which the student develops knowledge of professional practice and behaviours in the workplace. Classroom learning is linked to a 150 hour work integrated learning workplace position that facilitates the development of generic workplace skills and application of course specific knowledge. Workplace positions are usually unpaid work, with the student being mentored by skilled staff, and the position linked to agreed-upon learning objectives. While a minimum of 150 hours industry contact is required, the reflective assessment required during class dictates that at least 50% of the contact hours occur part-time during Weeks 1-13 PRIOR TO COMMENCING THIS COURSE, STUDENTS MUST IDENTIFY AND NEGOTIATE A SUITABLE POSITION WITH AN ORGANISATION IN THEIR DISCIPLINE AREA. THEY MUST ALSO REGISTER THIS POSITION WITH THE RELEVANT INDUSTRY LIAISON OFFICER (ILO) ON THEIR CAMPUS. Pre-requisite: Completion of 80CP Foundation Year courses.
