Contemporary Italy: A Survey (2095LHS)

This course explores some of the major institutions and issues in contemporary (largely post-1945) Italy. It seeks to develop students' knowledge of Italian society, culture and politics, their intercultural awareness, and academic and communication skills. No prior knowledge of Italy is assumed and the course is conducted completely in English. Assessment is through an essay (with associated brief oral presentation), an oral exam, and weekly worksheets on set readings. This is a required course in the Italian major, but it may also be taken as an elective by anyone interested in contemporary history and societies.
