Power in East Asia (2016GIR)

This course investigates East Asia in the international political economy, with a focus on the post-World War II period up until the present day. Particular attention is paid to the nature of power in East Asia, the roles of the US, Japan and China and their impact on the East Asian region and the wider international political economy. Specifically, the course examines the discipline of international political economy; the key concepts of power and hegemony; the role of the state, capitalist development; the role of the US, China and Japan in East Asia; regionalism; and the impact of globalisation. Prerequisites: NIL Co-requisites: NIL Incompatibles: 2016IBA Political Economy of East Asia.
