Labour Market Issues (2007EHR)

Labour Market Issues is taught fully online and is suitable for students studying industrial relations, human resource management and management. The material is presented in a non-technical and applied manner and is suitable for students without quantitative skills or economic training. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the nature of the labour market and to examine critical labour market issues facing employers and governments. Students will investigate the importance of workers on the supply-side of the labour market covering issues such as the changing pattern of labour force participation, education/human capital and the interaction between unpaid domestic labour and paid work in the formal economy. The course also introduces students to the role of employers on the demand side of the labour market addressing issues such as pay, labour market adjustment, discrimination and labour market flexibility.
