International Relations (1001GIR)

The discipline of International Relations (IR) is critical for understanding and explaining how the world operates today. Conflict, humanitarian disasters, terrorism, and large-scale human displacement are not historical events. How do states respond to these events? This introductory course is a study of war, peace, conflict, and diplomacy. In 1001GIR, students study the countries, the political events (i.e. World War II, Rwandan Genocide, Ebola Outbreak in West Africa), and the institutions (i.e. United Nations and the World Bank) that shape world affairs. Students will conduct simulations of diplomacy, trade negotiation, and conflict mediation during the course. Prerequisites: NIL Co-requisites: NIL Incompatibles: 1001IBA International Relations
